Valentines Day

Happy Hump Day!! Can you believe January is almost over, wasn't it just Christmas? Well guys I hate to say it but it's only a couple weeks away from Valentines Day....Eeeekkk!!! Grab that cup of coffee and let's talk about lovvve!!

Each year on February 14, people exchange cards, candy or flowers for their special "valentine." This is a time to celebrate romance and love. According to Hallmark, more than 163 million cards, not including packaged kids valentines, are exchanged. And it's not just an American phenomenon. Valentine's Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Italy and Denmark.

When I was dating my husband we would buy each other small gifts. Several years after we were married we decided spending money on Valentines gifts didn't seem to make sense for us. We still wanted to give each other something more then a card, so we came up with the cutest idea. We would make each other something that might only cost a couple dollars if that. Well if your anything like me I love a good DIY gift, especially the ones that are romantic and from the heart. Nothing says " I love you" like a one-of-a-kind gift made with your own two hands.

Here are a few ideas from gifts we've made over the years.

1. Pillow Cases - Turn a pillowcases into a romantic gift with a iron on message: I love you to the moon and back, sweet dreams, hold me tight etc. Head to your local craft store to pick your favorite iron on for just a couple dollars. You will treasure these forever.

2. Pre-Planned Date Ideas- Make a basket full of 12 pre-planned dates (or however many you see fit) this will give you and your sweetie something to look forward to each month with the planning already done. Cut out hearts to use for those pre-planned dates, on the back write the month and on the front what the date is, place them in a cut basket with a pretty red bow!!

3. Love Coupons- Personalized coupon gifts are always a big hit, and they're fun for you to make as they are for your special someone to redeem. Be creative make these coupons from any type of paper and personalize with your handwriting. Think of creative ideas, a back rub, time to snuggle, sharing a glass of wine etc. Place them in an decorated box, jar or envelope to give to your loved one.

4. Love Notes- Use a beautiful notebook and write down sweet nothings to your significant other. Tie a beautiful ribbon around the notebook to keep those sweet nothings private. The dollar store is a great place to grab an inexpensive notebook, if you get lucky they may even have one for Valentines Day.

5. Vacation Jar- Head to the dollar store and pick up a mason jar or grab an old pickle jar you might have laying around. Print out a saying from your computer or write one out (Vacation Fund, Cruise Trip etc.). Glue or tape this to your jar and add a $1.00 to start your savings. Give this to your special someone with a destination spot in mind. Each week add your change you may have collected over the week or decided on a certain amount to add. This will be a hit!!

Well guys these are a few of my favorites from over the years!!
